A famous willow tree that symbolizes hope and endurance has been attacked with a saw in the New Zealand tourist town of Wanaka. The crooked willow tree that stands in a lake has been photographed hundreds of thousands of times by sightseers and is a major tourist attraction for the South Island region. Wanaka photographer Luisa Apanui told local media the incident was perplexing, saying that everyone in the area is devastated.

Cuba is dispatching a brigade of doctors and nurses to Italy for the first time this weekend to help in the fight against the novel coronavirus at the request of the worst-affected region Lombardy. The coronavirus has dealt a blow to NASA’s plan to return Americans to the moon by 2024, as the agency ordered the temporary closure of two rocket production facilities after an employee tested positive for the illness. NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine said there will be impacts to NASA missions, but as teams work to analyze the big picture and reduce risks, NASA's top priority is the health and safety of the NASA workforce. The closures marked the latest in a series of setbacks NASA has faced in the development of its next-generation rocket, and its Orion crew vehicle, envisioned for human missions to the moon and Mars.

Police arrested two men who broke into Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris to pick up stones for resale on the black market. Suspended due to containment measures but monitored 24 hours a day, the Notre-Dame de Paris restoration site continues to pique the interest of looters. According to a Notre-Dame spokesperson, owning a piece of the legendary building makes one “fantasize,” adding that there are even cathedral stones for sale on the internet. But they are all fake.

The FCA automobile group, made up of Ferrari, Fiat and Chrysler, has set to work to stop the coronavirus, and has decided start mass manufacturing artificial respiration systems. The company has contacted the leading company in the sector, Siare Engineering International, to study whether this project is feasible or not. The intention is to double the production of these respiratory systems, from 150 to 300 per week. Formula 1 racing, at the earliest, will resume in May, leaving the entire Ferrari racing team out of work waiting for news with a coronavirus that has already reached 4,000 fatalities in Italy.

IBM has partnered with the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and the Department of Energy to create the COVID-19 High Performance Computing Consortium. The effort is expected to harness powerful high performance computing, or "supercomputing," resources that will massively increase the speed and capacity of coronavirus-related research. The system will harness 16 supercomputing systems from IBM, national laboratories, several universities, Amazon, Google, Microsoft and others. Computing power will be provided via remote access to researchers whose projects are approved by the consortium's leadership board.
