'그들의 파리 1778-1925'는 이번엔 모차르트와 프로코 피예프, 포레가 머문 파리시절의 작품들을 모아 선보여 음악과 시대 그리고 음악사를 단번에 꾀뚫는 시도를 이어왔다. 이번엔 ‘무언가(無言歌) 바이올린으로 부르는 노래'로 멘델스존, 파야, 미요, 그리그의 노래에 영감을 받은 바이올린 작품세계를 재조명한다. 하이페츠가 바이올린으로 편곡한 멘델스존(F. Mendelssohn)의 무언가(Songs Without Words, Op. No.1)를 시작으로, 스페인 작곡가 파야(M. de Falla)가 파울 코찬스키(Paul Kochanski, 1887-1934)의 노래들에서 가져온 대중적인 스페인 노래들을 엮은 에스파뇰 모음곡(Suite Populaire Espagnole, for violin & Piano)이 3차원 공간을 음악으로 가득 채운다. 이어 20세기 프랑스 작곡가 미요(D. A new study by HSBC says that India is the most vulnerable nation to climate change, followed by Pakistan, the Philippines and Bangladesh. The global banking giant analyzed 67 developed, emerging and frontier markets in terms of their vulnerability to the physical impacts of climate change, exposure to energy transition risks and ability to respond. The nations surveyed cover almost a third of the world’s nation states, 80 percent of the global population and 94 percent of global gross domestic product. Climate change for India could cut agricultural incomes, particularly in unirrigated areas that would be hit hardest by rising temperatures and declines in rainfall. The five countries least vulnerable to climate change risk are Finland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia and New Zealand.

South Korea and the United States have decided to resume a scaled-down version of joint military exercises on April 1st. The drills were postponed due to the Winter Olympics. Both sides have stressed that the exercises are defensive in nature. North Korea has traditionally denounced the drills as preparation for war. But during his meeting with South Korean special envoys last week, North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un said he would “understand” if the drills went ahead. In the spirit of maintaining warmer inter-Korean ties, the simulations this year will be “lower profile” without US strategic assets such as nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, which were deployed during last year’s exercises.

Ahead of South and North Korea's scheduled summit for late April, 160 members of a South Korean art troupe will travel to Pyongyang for a couple of rare concerts. The group will be in the North Korean capital from March 31st to April 3rd for two performances. The visiting delegation of artists will include South Korean pop singers including pop legend Cho Yong-pil, Red Velvet and Seohyun, a former member of Girls' Generation. The approval by the South Korean government reciprocates the visit by North Korean musicians and martial art demonstrators to the PyeongChang Winter Olympics last month.
