Currently the first Asian in 12 years to have been nominated for the annual Ballon d’Or, Son netted his 120th and 121st goals of his European career in the 16th and the 44th minute respectively of the aforementioned match, putting him on a level with former Bundesliga star Cha Bum-kun.
Son also owns the record for most goals by a South Korean player in a European season, with 21 goals during the 2016-17 season.
