Singapore is set to ban the domestic trade of elephant ivory there from September 2021.
The sale of elephant ivory and ivory products, as well as the public display of ivory products with the intent to sell them will be prohibited once the ban takes effect. The move is aimed at rooting out smuggling measures that exploit a loophole allowing the sale of ivory having entered the market prior to 1990.
The display of ivory for educational or religious purposes will continue to be permitted.
