Earlier this month, the US president had indicated that in light of a groundswell of public support for such checks, that he may be open to the idea.
Trump's apparent waffling comes after he met with the head of the National Rifle Association, which bills itself as "America’s longest-standing civil rights organization." The NRA was founded in 1871 with a self-stated mandate to "promote and encourage rifle shooting on a scientific basis."
