The Korea Train Express, better known by the moniker, KTX, was recently forced to reduce its speed to a snail's pace. According to officials, when track temperatures exceed 55 degrees Celsius trains are slowed to 230 kph (or less). At track temperatures of more than 64 degrees, operations are ceased entirely. Extreme temperatures cause the metal tracks to warp slightly, resulting in the curtailing of high-speed operations.
