More than one in 10 people around the world still live without electricity according to a recent report from the International Energy Agency, the World Bank, and the World Health Organization.

While many regions are gaining access to electricity at a faster pace, the prospects for many African countries remain bleak. In particular, sub-Saharan Africa is especially problematic with just 44% of people in 2017 having access to electricity.

The report also looked at so-called clean cooking, which is said to be vital to improving health by reducing smoke indoors.
