The target of the crackdown is vehicles with three or more instances of unpaid automobile taxes, parking violations, or fines for signal and speed violations in excess of 300,000 won.
In 2016, the amount of automobiles fines surpassed 240 billion won – approximately 220 million USD -- and about 40 percent of that was unpaid.
Some 4,000 people, including public officials and police officers will participate in the crackdown, using a total of 1,000 vehicle-based and mobile detection systems.
