On the heels of U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs on 60 billion dollars worth of Chinese imports, China announced tariffs on 3 billion dollars worth of U.S. goods.
The Chinese tariffs will include a 15% tariff on fruit and a 25% tariff on pork. U.S. pork producers said the Chinese tariffs on U.S. pork would harm the rural economy. Last year, the U.S. pork industry exported $1.1 billion of product to China, making that country the No. 2 value market for U.S. pork. Meanwhile, the U.S. grains producers said unfair Chinese government policies are creating unnecessary trade distortions that hurt U.S. farmers and other industries.
In addition, soy producers said it's extremely frustrating that the Trump administration is taking aim at its largest trading partner when farmers are really struggling right now.
